HELLO!

I’m Jer, it’s nice to meet you

With nearly 20 years’ experience building brands, creating websites and working on marketing campaigns, I have worked with entrepreneurs, startups and Fortune 500 companies.
I started my career in 2001, graduating from the International Academy of Design, becoming a designer/developer/multimedia producer. I started freelancing for creative agencies working with brands in entertainment, tourism and retail. I learned everything behind the scenes when it came to crushing high level projects and producing top quality results.
In 2005, once I had enough experience, I opened my own virtual boutique agency. Our focus was on websites, e-commerce, print and interactive campaigns. This gave me the freedom to travel and work from anywhere, so I chose to move to Whistler and Vancouver, BC. This was the first time I got a taste of what it was like to create my own lifestyle and run my own business.
This lasted for a few years. I then dissolved the company and went traveling with my girlfriend to Brazil for three months. When we came back to Toronto, we had the travel bug and wanted to keep going. We decided we should go back to Whistler, but this time I got a job working with the Tourism Whistler web team during the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. It was an incredible experience working and meeting people from all around the world.
After the Olympics, I got a job as Creative Director working out of my house in Whistler for an award-winning e-learning agency in San Francisco. I worked with brands such as Pepsico, WellsFargo, Deloitte and Petco. The whole company was virtual. I learned a lot about using storytelling to connect with users, creating experiences that take the user in the right direction completing specific goals, the importance of having a strong company culture, managing virtual teams all over the world, and what it took to run a successful business.
Looking back it all sounds so perfect. But there was always something that felt off. I knew deep down I wanted to run my own business and help build brands online. After having our first child, my partner and I moved back to Toronto where I had more connections and business opportunities.
At this time I had to put some serious thought into what I wanted to do. I had always been successful at freelancing, but now I had so much more experience and knowledge. I started to pick up new and interesting projects, where I was focusing on transforming brands from outdated to outstanding, and levelling up my clients’ web presences. I also started to notice that a lot of business were using cookie cutter, template driven websites to represent their business and were not really focusing on solving their customers’ needs and problems.
I have always had the entrepreneurial spirit and passion for building brands online, so I decided to take my creative mind, experience and skills and create my own brand. I am the driving force behind Thrive Online. My mission is to help entrepreneurs and business owners transform their brand, level up up their web presence and grow their business.
